I am so pleased to have been nominated and then accepted to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. It is not particularly about letters or kudos, but perhaps a little about recognition after 32 years involved in our work. When i received my acceptance letter from RSA there was an acknowledgement of my potential to be part of the working groups that meet and develop scope in a range of valuable areas. This will hopefully connect me with a network of professional and academic colleagues to continue to create change for young people in the arenas I already occupy.
The importance of a community of practice and learning from new and wider sources of knowledge and broader support on important topics with those that share common interest and passions. My aim is to further drive learning activities to act as advocate of continual analysis of youth work and young people to increase the awareness and depth of brilliance that informal education and youth work brings to not only young people but our communities. The key principles of Design, Grow, Perform, Transform holds a clear relevance to informal education and so i am excited to gain personally and professionally from existing Fellows and promote young people and youth work in this venture.
I have also a new role with a Sponsoring Committee for Citizens UK and hope to be able to be part of the work communities take on to promote social action and ultimately change. I have undertaken some training and attended a couple of meetings so far and found real insight into working in partnership with communities through community organising.
I am looking forward to being part of new networks of change-makers and hope to take part in ongoing and new projects that work to elevate the responses to young people and youth work. I will update on projects in the Youth Work Common Room so that i can bring ideas to and fro and hopefully add value in thematic groups.
