Engaging Dads Training: Informal Education for Professionals

Informal Social Education and Inclusion in Professional Development Training

I had the privilege to work alongside and co-deliver with a Dad that was part of a co-production 'storytelling' project recently. The event for practitioners across health, social care, education, community and the range of family services provided opportunity for professionals to attend and gain from both lived and learnt experience.

The co-designed training event focused as part of an aspiration from the group of Dads on the importance of ongoing dialogue based enquiry. This purposeful approach continues the discussion into developing a powerful multi-angled learning environment that incorporates the perspectives of each key stakeholder.

If you are in the North West and want to enrol on this specific training funded by BetterStart Blackpool and the United Youth Alliance, I will be continuing to deliver during January and February 2024; you can use the following link;

The valuable contributions that practitioners were able to take away by hearing the lived experiences directly from Dads, supported by professional analysis created a series of positive outcomes. This platform aims to create immediate practice based change, organisational development opportunities and strategic policy consideration that will be an influence as the foundations of the training are embedded in colleagues practice.

The notion of engaging in ongoing training is a valuable way to work across organisational and professional boundaries and learn and gain from others. The feedback in evaluation highlighted the importance of inclusion and wider consideration of voice and agency for Dads in parenting specifically the role of the practitioner in encouraging engagement.
